On one level, this site is my attempt to escape the limits of the standard resume format; an alternative way of describing my somewhat alternative approach to work and life.
Mostly.
It’s also about anything else that I think has something to do with the work I do (or have done) to make a living.
I started with my un-resume. You might want to begin there too.
Un-Resume?
Simply put, it’s a resume organized thematically around things I have found relevant and important to my most successful positions (for me and my employers). It isn’t strictly limited by time or titles or even a functional skills. And I don’t think it will ever be finished.
I’m trying to focus on answering the questions that resume content doesn’t typically answer: How do I approach problems? Why do people keep re-hiring me? What’s up with my mis-matched educational background? What’s your sense of humor like?
Each of these questions deserves a post of its own and I plan to add them. But that’s part of the un-resume too: it’s not any more fixed than I am.
What This is Not
This site is not a compendium of my creative efforts, a soapbox for my political leanings, a travelogue, or a complete list of every skill I’ve acquired (and/or lost) along the way. Of course, I reserve the right to talk about any and all of those things here if that’s the way the wind blows, but as of now, the focus is on my professional/work life.
